Rename a sub-category and keep the same friendly name?

When renaming a sub-category it also wants me to rename the friendly name as well. I just need to rename the sub-category and keep the friendly name. Is that possible?

I'm sorry, it's not. I wish I had a better answer for you!

Ok, I just tried it out, and the interface is a little wonky, and forces you to take extra steps, but you can set the nice-name back to whatever you want...

First, the wonkiness: If you change the sub-cat name it defaults the nicename. If you try and change it back to the old name it complains that that name is already taken, so go ahead and accept the new nicename. The extra step is to go back to the page and select the new sub-cat and change the nicename again, setting it back to its previous value.

    Good find.

Technically, I'd call it a bug that Smugmug won't let you keep the same nicename without the extra step. The code could easily be made smart enough to see that the sub-cat that conflicts with the name you are trying to use now is indeed the very one you're modifying which is not actually a conflict. Apparently not something the developer anticipated, but something a great QA tester would have found in testing.

Exactly! It's a bug in my book too, but then QA is what I do for a living....
