I spent some time along the Washington & Old Dominion Trail this afternoon shooting commuters. I dunno, they seem a bit soft to me. :dunno I'm wondering if my Nikon 70-300 is just a POS. Can I get some critique? One thing I already know is that I wish I'd been a bit further off the trail. Panning was pretty quick! The gallery (nine images) is here. Thanks for taking the time.

    Whoops
Sorry, I didn't explain the title. I'm going up to Lake Placid, NY in a couple weeks for the Ironman. I'm trying to get in a little practice shooting cyclists, hence the "trials" title. Trials for ME, not the riders.

I think these look good. Not sure I would call it panning, as your shutter speeds were fast enough to stop the motion. I like the DOF you got here and they seem sharp to me. Having just shot my first triathlon, I got a big kick out of really slowing down the shutter speed and panning with the cyclists, shooting like 1/30 in rapid bursts. Didn't work as well with the runners. I ended up with a lot of exposures and a few keepers, but I liked the look of the ones the were sharp: http://ackdoc.smugmug.com/Images/ACKTri10/12881247_cSyW4#930270708_WFDoz
