So it was my 26th birthday recently and my mom came down to Portland to visit me from Alaska. It was great to see her. We hadn't been hiking in a long time, as I've been in Portland for about 3 1/2 yrs now. So we went on a hike I've done a couple times. Drift Creek Falls off highway 18 heading out towards the coast. 75' waterfall. Suspension bridge 100' above the creek bed. Gorgeous little hike.

Hey Bryce, I like the shot that's a reflection probably the best. Waterfalls are pretty tough to shoot usually because they're surrounded by a lot of busy rocks, trees and debris. So a lot of the scenes seem a little cluttered.

But I still think the sepia treatment on #10 is a cool idea and definitely fitting for that "pioneer exploration" kinda feel.

Did not do any fishing. I don't think there is a huge run in this creek at the point where we were at. We saw some small fish, but by small I mean about 3/4" to 1 1/2" long ish... So...not really fishing worthy. However from what I've read, closer to the coast where the creek comes out, there is some larger fish at the right time of year of course. I do miss my Alaska fishing that I grew up with though for 23 years... I need to get back out and catch some fish. Hopefully more in Seattle when we move up there.

love waterfall shots... i think i like #5 the best for clarity and color, and # 11 best for perspective. like Schmoo said, waterfalls can be tough to shoot when there's so much around them. i think i'd prefer these with the bridge cropped out in composing, but i don't know if you can get the right angle to do that... either way, looks like a spot i'd like to visit myself!

There is actually, and I'm glad that I got it to the point where you can't quite tell if they are or not. I was going for a natural, not over processed look. They actually are all HDRs except for the pano and the very last shot.

I like 4, 5, 8, and 9. They have some nice color and contrast. One thing I would suggest to try and see if it works for you. If you look at 8 and 9 specifically, you have some nice foreground interest but you are getting competition with the background for the viewers immediate attention. Our eyes get drawn not only to light and dark but also contrast. You can add depth and interest by actually darkening and/or reducing the contrast in areas that you want your viewers to spend less time. Perhaps in #8, put in an exposure gradient from the upper right corner to the cliffs for the waterfall. And perhaps darken some of the areas around the waterfall in the rocks and foliage. That might give you depth in the picture and help move the viewers eye.
