toad-ally innapropriate

These two and another pair were having a good time this morning in my back yard.. I have never seen this before but, her head is not usually that color, bright orange/red, as soon as they broke off she turned almost black.. thought that was pretty cool...

    Wonderful captures . rather odd- I thought toads were like frogs and the male fertilises the eggs as the female lays them in the water ?

    yeah, they have similar behavior, first theres a battle of males to get the female, its like 10 males for every female.. the winner locks onto her, then she finds a water source, and uses her legs to foam and deposit then he seeds it.. I had a small turtle pond that they would hoard to, it was a huge pile on and the loudest noise you could imagine, now they are happy to lay them any place they can find with water...
