Is it ok to do, if you format the card each time you put it into one or the other camera? Or does a card become a Canon or Nikon card till death them do part once used in either one?

Thanks.

They work just fine. Even across platforms and types of devices. Pro audio recorder to vid camera to dSLR ... even to store personal files on like a USB thumb drive. Never had a problem. But I do tend to reformat in/for the specific device. Been doing that since the dawn of the digital era.

Nonetheless, I generally tend to dedicate certain cards to certain uses ... particularly high speed ones to video or a dSLR in rapid burst mode, and the lower speed ones to cameras/devices that work well with the lower speeds.

Splendid, Henry, just the answer I needed!

I see you are partial to Latin aphorisms. Admirable. I can never sort out the word order. But I suspect there is a "t" needed on "es" to complete your signature quote.

    I format my cards...
I format my cards every time I put them in the camera. If I am going on a shoot, I will frmat all of my cards. I have one small Nikon P&S (Coolpix) which uses the same CF cards as my Canon DSLR cameras.

I have two CF cards which I reserve for the Nikon. I know that I don't have to do this but, OP asked "What do I do/" not "What should I do?"

Yep ... I'm surprised I let this typo go as long as it did without catching it, and surprised no one else caught it earlier, too! Thanks Neil and Ziggy!
