With the first touch of fall weather, the cognoscenti come down to the beach every evening here for the best free show in town (or anywhere, really.)

(No post processing at all here. These are straight out of the camera jpegs with AWB. I tried my usual workflow, but I couldn't improve them.)
If not now, when?

    Gorgeous!

Why AWB? I never use it, should I?

I am having trouble keeping up with what is new with your posts...........sorry if I miss any. I almost missed this one.

    Gorgeous sunset. Nice treatment.

I got my lens last night about 7:30, after a rainy day. I couldn't get to the beach, and where I did get and with a 400, well, ............I am afraid to post the photo, but I can guarantee you that our sunset, though there was one, it could not rival this one at all.

I almost always use AWB and it mostly sort of works. It doesn't matter much to me because:
    1. I almost always shoot raw+jpeg so a raw conversion can acheive any white balance I want, and
    2. It's very easy to use LAB curves in PS to change the white balance even without a raw version.

In this particular case, the out-of-the-camera jpegs where just fine even with AWB, and the lowest possible in-camera saturation and sharpening settings. I played a little with raw conversions and my usual array of tricks, but there wasn't anything really that I was going to accomplish. The reality of these colors is compleely subjective. There are good deep shadows and fine highlights. I didn't want to recover any shadow detail. There really is nothing to sharpen.
