Kiteboarding

I have been experimenting with the kinds of shots I take with the local kite boarders/ windsurfers. All of this is from the relative safety of land. Buy relative I mean even on land I still have had a couple instances of kite crashing feet from me and getting cuts from the rigging. I may need to get a helmet.:D

Their is the close up shot.

Of course theirs always the rigging to get in the way:D

A shot with more of background showing to give more of a feeling of what the sport is about.

Sales so far seem to be a mix of both kinds of shots.
The shot I have not been able to get so far is the boarder in the foreground with the kite in the same shot, an extreme wide angle shot. It would require getting in the water (waterproof housing) with an experienced subject, or on some sort of shooting platform (boat). :(:

The windsurfers are an even harder problem. With the sail in the way you loose half of your shooting angles. It requires you to be upwind of the subject or having the windsurfer comming right at you.

I would be interested in any thoughts comments from anybody in a similar situation.

    wow. nice work.
i have attempted to shoot kiteboarders in the past, but unsuccessfully every time. granted theyre usually a mile off shore.
this is no easy task, and you captured them very well.
    good job

    Don, where were you shooting?

I found it impossible to get the recognizable surfer & sail in the shot and I have been under the surfer...

I really like the wind-farm shot. Gives a nice feel for the height of of the kite. Only comment would be to try and not cut the board off. Otherwise, nicely done.

    Yup, I was at 3rd.

    Have you shot @ Crissy? Is a 300 + 1.4 (DX) enough?

For the coarse races you pretty much have to be in a boat to get a deceit shot. The coarse is out in the middle of the bay. Except for when the racers tack close to the shore. The freestyle events are all about showing off to the people on shore, so they should be right in front of the St Francis Yacht club.
