I looked back through my images and found only one with a perspective more from the back and with more sand and sky...as some suggested. I'll post the processed and unprocessed versions. Are these better than the originals?

Thanks, Chris

I think this one has a beautiful perspective to it. To include the sky, and adding another bit for my eye in the great hill on the right side of the frame. I'm personally not an SC fan. But I see why it would be attractive to mute the colors.
    Good luck,

Much better. I don't care as much for the selective color one, but the full color one is great.

To me without a doubt, it's #6. Selective coloring takes my eyes right to the subject. Also, the clouds in B&W look a lot more dramatic and interesting.

I really like #5. The B/W in #6 seems a little stark to me - I think it makes the towel look oversaturated. Maybe a mix between the 2 shots (muted colors like Froch said). Composition is sweet - makes me wish I was sitting in that chair!

Love the perspective, pretty much what I imagined when I commented in the other thread.

For me the contrast between the starkness of the bw & the richness of the colour really works well in this image. clap.gif

#5 is also a very nice image in its own right.

I can understand that others may not appreciate the aggressive use of selective colour (or any sc or may just despise the concept) so perhaps just muting the surrounding colours rather than eliminating them may provide a more widely acceptable image whilst still achieving most of the effect of #6.

You might also consider keeping the chair out of the desaturation process.

Chris, I LOVE #6. I like the selective color--the stripes really stand out. This is an AWESOME photo!

One more for #6. Can't say anything more than what's been said already. Best one for sure IMO.

Everyone...thanks for the comments. I've been away this week again (without internet access.) So, I am just reading your comments.

I'll have to mull over the pull between sc and just muting the colors. I am personally pulled in the direction of keeping image #6 and desaturating the colors in the towel.

For me, this discussion is a great example of how the forum helps the photographer. Your comments in my original post made me dig back into my shots from the beach to find and process #5 and #6. I thank you for that!

and now, you are challenging me to make a choice between creating the most personally satisfying image vs. one that might have wider appeal in this forum. It's an interesting thing to think about. In the end I will honor my own sense of the image and hope it will appeal to many of you!

    thanks for always pushing me!

Another vote for #6! Very nice. The colorful striped beach towel really stands out against the bw background.
