PSD is the proprietary Photoshop program. If you've got Photoshop, just open it up and use the Save As function to save a JPG.

If you don't have Photoshop and it's a file someone else gave you, I believe Gimp (the free Photoshop) can open a PSD file and should allow you to save it out as a jpg. Gimp can be found here.

Well, if you have Photoshop Cs5 then you could start with...

    single image:
Photoshop - Save As, set to JPEG
Photoshop - Save for Web, set to JPEG
Camera Raw - Save, set to JPEG

    in bulk:
Photoshop Save As or Save for Web, but running a batch of images through an action
Camera Raw - open multiple images then Save, set to JPEG
Photoshop or Bridge - Image Processor, set to JPEG
    Bridge - Export panel

I'll bet I forgot one or two in there

Image processor is definitely your best option for batch work

    PSD to JPEG
    Thanks everyone for your replies.

I have PS CS4, and under the "save as" option, there is no selection option for Jpeg.

I have just tried the image processor option under Bridge [tools/photoshop/image processor] and that seemd to work well.

The process, however, reduced my 69,000Kb PSD file to a mere 600Kb JPEG file.

Thanks all for your input and suggestions.clap.gif

Glad to hear that you have found a solution. Just for future reference, as of CS3 Photoshop will not show JPG as an option for saving if you have several layers in the document--you have to flatten it first. This has been corrected in CS5, but I don't know about CS4, but you could try it and see.

In CS4 the jpg save to option is missing because you have to change the bit size.

Under Image go to Mode and then change it to 8 bit...
    the save as a copy
    Save as JPG

Ah, right, that too...also fixed (finally) in CS5 :D.

I didn't know that! I'd still change the bit depth and save as.rolleyes1.gif

So...it automagically does that for you now! clap.gif
