A classmate of our daughter's needed some fresh head shots for his portfolio. These are all cropped with quick balancing. The finals will need some clean up. What pictures do you like best? What can I do better next time?

1. I wish I would have seen the curled hand and asked him to hide it or flatten it.

2. A lot of contrast here between the two sides of his face.

3. Same as 2 only smiling.

4.
This is one of my favorites.

5.My daughter was off camera holding a reflector and made some comment that got a smile.

6. Going for a more contemplative look.

7. Finally, a couple straight on.

Thanks in advance for looking at these and for your comments.

I really like the lighting in #1 and the fact you are pulled back a bit, great composition.

Thank you. There's always Photoshop to take out the hand.

The only thing I really notice is, in many of the photos, the subject's head is tilted towards the higher shoulder. With a male you don't want to do this. It's more of a feminine thing to tilt the head towards the high shoulder.

I agree. I noticed it during the shoot too. I included a few with the high shoulder head tilt because they were otherwise technically OK.

Understandable. That's the only thing I see, "wrong," if you know what I mean. Otherwise they look great. Keep up the great work!!
