I didn't think I had anything around my house that said "stripes", and I wasn't going to enter anything at all. This morning was a sunny day so I went outside to see what I might take a photo of and see if I could come up with an image. How's this? It's my husbands truck with all sorts of reflections on it that look like stripes, plus the sports stripes on the side.

Here is the mirror image of it:

Jenn, I think the subject is loads of fun but the images are perhaps too crowded. The parking sign is a big distractor......

I think I like the mirror image version better, myself... What do you mean by 'crowded'?

There's an awful lot going on in the image and no real main subject. All of the parts together add up to a little bit of a distracting image.

hmmm none of them alone are strong enough to stand by itself, either, I'm thinking... they are all part of each other.

Have you tried cropped down to just the door handle?

Maybe boost the contrast on it?

if I do that can you still tell it's a door handle or does it matter?

I think you could still tell, but I don't think it would matter. It may not even work, but it is something to try to simplify it and I see stripes in the handle pretty well.

    Jenn,

I'd almost like to see you get in even closer. I certainly see the stripes in the handle, but in my opinion, they don't dominate the frame. Take that with a grain of salt though -- this one is definitely more focused than the first few shots that you posted in this thread. thumb.gif

I don't understand what you mean by more focused? I like the mirror image one because it has several views of stripes and they play off the reflection of something else. Seems more interesting to me.

I was simply referring to the fact that this image has a more definite (or focused) subject. I probably just used the wrong word there :D

So, you are saying there is one object with stripes in the handle image, but the other one has many object with stripes? It's better to just have one with stipes?

For my personal tastes, I prefer the simpler composition that you have in this second image.

None of these work in my opinion. As some have already mentioned, the first 2 pictures are just too busy and usually unless the theme calls for it, busy doesn't do well in photo contests because it means the viewers' eyes are wandering all over the place and that is not good. In your last attempt, the door handle alone, the lighting is just messed up. The top of the handle is all blown out which pretty much ruins the image. Even if the lighting was perfect, I don't thing a door handle will do much as far as capturing the viewer's interests goes. Perhaps a different idea in the last few hours that are left in the contest?

well.. everything else has already been done ... the door handle is reflecting the image of the wood fence behind it.. the light you see is the light from the other side of the fence showing between the wood slats.

I have one more idea .. working on it now

I like the way the lines lead into the middle of the frame. And I see arrows pointing to the center.

I think there are things that could be improved. Maybe you could get a bit lower and cut out the door handles? I think the bright reflections in the center are too blown out.
