Tried a search but not much luck. New to the forum and need help already. I have a Sunpak 611 with auto signal and need to know if it will be compatible with the Canon XL.

Older electronic flashes frequently use a high voltage in their triggering circuits, and Canon recommends no more than 6 V for most of their digital cameras. If your flash is a high voltage unit, it can destroy the electronics in your camera if plugged into the PC connection or the hot shoe.

There is a table on the web of trigger circuit voltages here - http://www.botzilla.com/photo/strobeVolts.html The reports of the Sunpak 611 are mixed. Personally, I would not put my camera at risk. It is your call.

If I wanted to use a Sunpack 611, I would trigger it optically, or with a Pocket Wizard, but I would not connect it directly to my camera without a SafeSynch voltage controller or similar device.

Thank you for your quick response. I sure don't want to damage the camera. I'll look into an optical trigger
