Merida is the largest city on the northern side of the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. It was very wealthy in the late 1800's due to the production of sisal, the fiber used to make rope.
The main street of the old town is a wide, tree lined lane modeled after the Champ de Elise with French Colonial architecture the dominant style.
A beautiful city with friendly people and great food, well worth a visit.

Five buildings at the back of the Colonial Hotel parking lot. Quite a contrast from the buildings on the main avenue.
