Hi Ya'll,

This year I tried something different this year at the rookery in St. Augustine. Usually I load up my Beach Rolly with my tripod, Wimberly head, 500mm f/4, 300mm f/4. 70-200mm 2.8, and my 28-70mm 2.8, my 1.4 and 1.7 teleconverters D3 and D300 and head on in.

I would set the 500mm on the tripod with the D300 and put the 300mm on the D3 and start shooting. I foudn myself having too much reach at times and also being tied down to one spot.

This year I went for simple and mobile and shoot with just my D3 and the 80-400mm lens. The 80-400 gave me a lot more fexibility and mobility.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Love, love, love the pink spoonbill! I'd be more than happy to have taken any one of those shots.

Looks like you made the right choice Harry. Love the Gator ... and the Spoonie. You need to enter the gator image in the calendar comp.

Super shots Harry. clap.gif One day I will get down to that farm of yours.

Can I have your 500 and Wimberly mount since you no longer have a use for them.rolleyes1.gif Seriously though, I keep considering the 500 f/4 to go with my 300 and 1.4. When I see the quality that this lens produces as evidenced in Luis's recent post, I get very envious.

yep I do something like that but I do my walk abouts with the 200/400 mm .The staying mobile and shooting handheld gives you shots that you would never get with a tripod . oh yea the shots you got ain't to bad either :D and Harry the 3 is one fast %&((*() eek7.gifwings.gifivaryou think shutter and you have 4 shots rolleyes1.gif

Harry these are great. We are hoping to go back to St. Augustine, we stay at the St. Francis Inn when we are there. We never made it to the rookery at the gator place, we will next visit for sure.
