What is This?

This bird was in our driveway today and my dog chased it over the fence into our backyard. It stayed in the backyard for an hour or so and then left.

My husband said if flew like something was wrong with it. It looks like it has one leg, but the other could be tucked up.

Sure would like to know what this is. Never seen one before around here.

    I thought it had taken off, but my oldest dog chased it out of the backyard tonight. Seems it was hiding in the wildflowers under the bird feeder. It only went to the next backyard.

    Wonder how it ended up in town.
