Any way to share large images on Facebook?

I'm looking for a way to post a medium sized photo from Smugmug on my Facebook wall. I'm not thrilled with the current 'share' function which just puts the thumbnail on there and requests a click to send you to the actual picture. Can this be done through Smugmug or any of the Smugmug/Facebook apps? I would rather the photos not actually reside on Facebook. Just be shown in a reasonable size as they appear in the dgrin forum for example.
Thanks,
E

I'm not on fb, but is there a way to link to an external image on the Internet? If so, you could use the direct photo link from SM and link to it.

I tried the direct links and both embedded links but, at best, got a thumbnail (and usually not the correct one). ONly one that worked was the Share function.

I'm not aware of any way to put an externally hosted image directly into a regular FB post. They show thumbnails to external things or images only if they are uploaded to FB (not from an external source).

Interesting. So then how is SM showing a thumbnail on posts? headscratch.gif

    Facebook is doing that.

AFAIK, there's no way for a Facebook user to manually display a web image.

Makes sense why there is sometimes little control on the thumbnail displayed.

It's interesting that fb does that. I'm surprised they're a part of the Internet when they want to be so isolated from it. ne_nau.gif

I don't know that you can get the photo to actually appear larger than a thumb directly on your wall. However, I just tried posting a link to one XLarge photo through the "Share > Get a Link" feature on SmugMug. That worked fine. (I actually posted it, then deleted it right away) You just get a link, then add it to your post. That thumb is the one that appears. Yes, people will have to click on your link to see the larger photo, but at least that's all they'll see if you want them to; I mean, they won't see the whole gallery, just the one photo you chose. And it can be watermarked. But maybe that's not what you wanted exactly.

When you type a link int a FB post, they go scrape the page of the link looking for images and let you pick which thumbnail image will go with the link. They make their own thumbnail from whatever image you choose and copy it to their own storage. They don't link to an external image.
