Don't like the way my Galleries are listed

What I'd like to do is, when clicking on "Galleries" in my NavBar, I would like it to come up showing "Sports" and then click on Sports and it to show the different Sports Galleries, and in turn the same w/ Portraits...then "Grads", "Kids", "Headshots", etc...
So basically, my NavBar would show "GALLERIES", then the Galleries that show up would be something like, "Portraits", "Sports", "Weddings", "Proofing", etc., and then those would have their separate Catagories, as I've listed above..... anyways, I've messed around w/ the Catagories and Sub Catagories, etc and am not having any luck. What I'm finding is that if my NavBar says "Galleries", then my Gallery Catagory has to show "Galleries".....not "Sports", etc... am I making any sense?

Any help! Thanks in advance!:huh

See the galleries page tutorial here starting with the step labeled The Galleries Page I.
Set the galleries link in your navbar to point to "/galleries".
Then, set your homepage to display by category (if not already on that).
Then, create any top level Categories that you want that don't already exist.
Then, assign your galleries to the desired top level categories: Sports, Portraits, etc...
Your galleries page will show only the top level categories that you have assigned at least one gallery to.
My site is done this way.

O.K. I've done everything correctly, I think.... but something's not working right.
I removed the top level catagory called Galleries in the Control panel, went to the tutorial and had already done The Galleries Page I. I set the galleries link in my navbar to:
<li><a href="//pamd.smugmug.com/galleries">Galleries</a></li>
(maybe I didn't do that right, I actually copied and pasted what you had said, but that didn't work, so I copied the other ones...)
Then I set my Homepage (in the control Panel) to display catagories by clicking "Catagories" (it was on "galleries").
I added one new top level catagory (all others I had already created).
Next I assigned all my galleries to the top level catagories in my gallery settings for each gallery.
Then I went in to each separate gallery and assigned them to the appropriate catagory.
I think I did it all right, but when I click on the Galleries tab on my navbar, it directs me to a blank page.
Help!
Thanks so much!
1) Enable your galleries with the homepage layout button on the homepage.
2) Change the link in your navbar to be this:
