Featured Photo for Top Level Folders

My site is organized with a few top level folders (travel, life, etc.).

In each top level folder there are a number of sub folders. I went and selected Featured Photos for each of the sub folders. It appears that whichever one you choose first becomes the featured photo for the top level folder (category) as well.

Is there a way to change that?

Better stated: whichever subalbum I pick first becomes the source of the Category's featured photo. So if I have

a Category containing Folders 1, 2 and 3, with Photos X, Y and Z in each Folder, if the first action I take is to make Photo 2Y featured in Album B, the Category's thumbnail will be set to 2Y. If I then select featured photos for Folders 1 and 3, they will not affect the Category. If I change Folder 2's to 2X, 2X is now the Category's thumbnail.

It seems that I'm unable to get anything from Folder 1 or 3 to be featured at the Category level since I played first with Folder 2.

    Hope that wasn't confusing.

Ideally, I'd like the Category thumbnail to be randomized like the default settings except that it would only choose from the subfolder features.

Failing that, I removed the Feature Photo from a gallery. That unlocked the gallery and category thumbnail, but the category it still only pulling its thumbnail from that one gallery that I featured first.

    What's the deal?

    Hi Marc,

That's the way it's designed to allow you to pick the thumbnail for a (sub)category. Feature photos for (sub)categories are taken from the first gallery in the (sub)category if you have your homepage set to 'position' sort for categories / galleries.
So the gallery you want the photo featured from needs to be in spot # 1. If no photo is featured in the gallery, a random photo from the gallery is chosen.

If your homepage is set to 'most recent' instead of position, we take a random photo from any gallery.

Interesting. So there's no way to uncouple the category's thumbnail from the constituent gallery's thumbnails?

    Thanks for the info, Sebastian.
