Is there a way to do this without making a copy and then moving the copy?

Just so you know, you won't be able to keep that image in a certain place in the gallery in which it's a "collected" image. It will go where it wants to go. Collected images can't be arranged. Also, you've gotta keep the captions the same on both. Changes to one caption will affect the other.

And the collected image keeps the original URL and settings from the original gallery. Not great if you are trying to control privacy, etc.

I'm still looking for the method to quickly copy & move to a new gallery where the copy gets the settings from the destination gallery.

I'm working on the same issue. I post an unlisted gallery for my client with a unique price structure. But then I want to take some of those photos and put them in a different gallery with a different pricing structure available to the general public. I tried collecting but all the characteristics of the original followed them. Right now I'm working on Smart Gallery for the newer gallery that populates from other galleries. Seems to be working. Not completely vetted yet however.
