I saw my first one yesterday. Thought it was a hornet and ducked as it flew past:cry. As a consolation, I did capture an image of Volucella inanis in the same area. Going back today to see if I can find the Volucella zonaria again.

Not as bad as me then - caught a glimpse of one flying around the pond with sunlight glinting of the wings and thought it was a dragonfly - you do tend to duck though when they fly towards you.

Phil get the impression with these that they have fairly large feeding areas they tour around.
