5 minutes in Spray Park

Convinced a friend to join me to check out wildflowers and sunset from Spray Park in Mount Rainier National Park. Leading up to Saturday, the weather had provided nice light and clear skies at Rainier during sunset. Saturday did not hold true to that pattern and the mountain was mostly obscured with clouds.

The cloud layer remained just above Spray Park as we arrived. Wildflowers were past the lily phase but before the lupine / flower phase. I definately thought we wouldn't get a sunset but, in less than 5 minutes, the clouds cleared out at the height of the sunset color. Except for one other photographer who walked into my frame, we had this amazing experience all to ourselves.

That forest is boogyman quality when hiking out in the dark! :huh

good stuff, Steve... especially like the perspective in #2 and the colors in # 8. how far away was the bear lurking in the brush in #3?

Thanks for the comments everyone! I'm certainly grateful that I was in the right place & time for a change!

Rocky- the bear was about 20 yards away. Neither of us saw it when we first entered the area. My friend actually "discovered" the bear when he was about 10 yards away and he/she snorted at him and he retreated. If I only had the 50-500 Sigma! Someday I hope..

Great set, I think 7 and 9 are my favorites (love when that fog moves around right at sunset, I've seen that happen at Rainier many times). I've passed hikers who saw a few bear on that trail, but I've never seen them there myself.
