#56 - turn off shake reduction!

D'oh!

Just read a bit from Pentax on panning-- they recommend turning OFF the in-camera shake reduction when panning. I'm sure other manufacturers have similar recommendations.

    Ah, good point! I know some newer VR systems (e.g. I believe the Nikon VR II) will detect that you are panning and will only stabilize the vertical motion. In that case, I'd recommend leaving it on, because it may help get a sharper subject. Definitely worth looking at the specs of your respective system...
