Boo Facebook uploads!

Sitting here uploading my most recent photos to Facebook. I haven't yet branched out to make my own website - but with the aid of Facebook, the page I've created is slowly creeping in fan numbers. Once I've secured some sort of FB fan base, then I'll go for the web launch.

However, I'm sitting here comparing side by side my photos on lightroom next to FB uploads.

Not that I needed to compare, the Facebook grain after upload almost looks like an edit of texture.

Is there any tricks to solve this problem?

I've only uploaded my photos in the .jpg format. I've triend other formats to no such success.

Any suggestions?

How are you uploading the pics? I have not noticed "Facebook grain" on shots I've uploaded, unless I'm just not being critical enough. FB obviously has limits on the max size of the photos, so if you're using the FB uploader to pull them up from your hard drive, maybe it's doing excessive compression when it resizes? I really don't know how that works, if you tell it to upload a photo that it has to downsize. If you're not doing it already, I'd recommend resizing the photo before uploading it.

I looked at some of your photos, and I'm not noticing anything horrible. Keep in mind that FB is not the ideal place for photos, since it doesn't keep the hi-res versions.

That said, I have really liked using Jeffrey Friedl's Lightroom to Facebook plugin, and been very happy with both how easy it is to use and how the output looks when it's done.

Awesome, thanks so much for the advice. I'll have to look deeper into that. Thanks again!

No problem. Feel free to look at my photos (365 link in my sig line). If you see the same kind of "grain," then nevermind, that obviously isn't the answer.

But definitely check out Freidl's LR stuff at this link. I have found some of these plugins to be an awesome time saver. Just right-click on your photo when you've finished editing and with the Export option, it goes directly to FB. Very easy. I like it a lot.
