I need advise on how to generate a clear Avitar

I see many avatars that are quite clear and crisp. I understand that the image needs to be no larger than 80 x 80 px. All my attempts at cropping and then downsizing the image to that size at 72dpi result in a pretty soft image that is pretty dull compared to other avatars I see in use.

I have both LR3 and CS4 so I should have the software tools but apparently not the knowledge to get it right. :D

Can someone educate me on the process to maximize the image quality of our tiny little avatars?

Thanks.
Brad

Avatars typically need to be sharpened. What image / graphic are you using? Post it.

See, I can't even spell Avatar correctly. :Drolleyes1.gif

Here is the source image that it was cropped from:

And the final downsized poor quality result:

After doing some ore research and reading other posts on this subject part of my problem may the original image choice. The focus on my original is a little soft and the contrast between me and the background is not very strong. Those two factors may be part of my problem.headscratch.gif

Exactly. Try for another image, that's less complicated. More you, less other stuff.
