Uploading

I must have missed another memo. When I go to UPLOAD to this gallery from a gallery choice on my Home Page, there is only one option: the big black box with a "Select files and folders" tab and a "Drag image..." icon in the center. No longer do I have a choice of which option to use to upload. The "bulletproof" option, which I like to use for one image, is not available to use. Usually I upload one to three images at a time, so I like the "bulletproof" option because it is the fastest to navigate through.

The presented option is terribly, terribly slow to use to navigate to the folder on my hard drive. Each level takes, literally, minutes to get to. The upload is fast, but not the navigation.

I just figured out that if I go to UPLOAD on my home page, and then follow the drop-down to the right gallery, I get the options. Used to be that I could go direct to the gallery by clicking the gallery image and get the options.

    Hi Tony,

We did make some recent changes to the Simple uploader. When you access it from a gallery, you'll now just see an overlay with the uploader window. You should still see a link at the bottom of the page to Try a Different uploader:

    http://www.smugmug.com/photos/960359092_rb6Ws-M.jpg

Are you seeing this appear? Clicking this should give you the option to use the Olde Faithful uploader, which lets you upload up to 5 images at a time. If you don't see this option for some reason, try clearing your browser cache and cookies, and then try logging in again and accessing the uploader from a gallery directly. Any luck?

Ah, the Java uploader screen fills my page, but I now see that if I scroll down so the Java uploader is higher on the screen that the other ways link is there. I was used to it on the right of the screen.

The appearance of the java uploader changed when I was adding more files - I like it, but it freaked me out seeing it change before my eyes! :D

Now, I'm not sure that I like the new uploader. I would rather add files to a blank screen, than a full screen where I have to scroll down to the bottom to make sure everything uploaded.

Not sure what you mean - it's the same uploader with some UI enhancements - can you show a screengrab ?

Well, here I'm uploading more than a screen's worth of images.

To know when they're all done, I guess it's easier to look at a blank screen, than a full screen in which I have to then scroll down to the bottom and check. I see that I can clear the uploader with a click, which is nice. Just gonna take some getting used to I guess.

So i just noticed this new Simple uploader myself, and it apparently isn't working for me. The buttons and everything on the uploader work, but dragging and dropping, nor does selecting the files manually allow me to actually upload any photos. It basically won't let me select, with any method, any photos to upload. I'm using Chrome on a Win7 machine, and have tried it in IE8, with the same results.

I've tried clearing the Smugmug cert from the Java list, as suggested to no avail. Reinstalled the latest Java version with no help.

Currently using the Send to Smugmug feature, which is so sloooooow, even with the ridiculously fast internet connection at work (up to 5mbps/sec when I was uploading with the Simple uploader before). So what gives? Any ideas?

The simple uploader does not seem to work for me anymore either. I've tried dragging and dropping from explorer as well as selecting photos from the file chooser box and clicking "open", and neither way puts the files into the upload window. Is there possibly something I need to do differently now that it has changed a little bit?

I've tried on Win7 using FF 3.6.8, and also on WinXP using IE 8.

Thanks for any advice anyone can give me.

I'm draging raw.mov files taken with the 7D into the simple uploader and they
won't appear in the Simple uploader. What's up, they worked other day.
    192m 22 sec.

Edit: Old Faithfull took the .mov file and looks like uploading. But what's up with the Simple?
Edit2: Old Faithfull upload finished ok 192m 22 sec.

I want to use the Simple uploader with drag and drop and the progress bar,
not the Old Faithful. Is it broken or what?

Simple uploader not working for me today either (I submitted a message to help@smugmug.com too). Nothing shows up in the upload window after you drag a file (or more) into the box. (Windows Vista, IE 8)

I notice this error in the java console:

    Trying to set lastDir Used
Exception: D&D, Illegal/unsupported escape sequence near index 3
    C:\Users\David\Pictures\2010\07-NWCT Summer Playlab\C-Little Red Riding Hood\Chosen\Filtered

It seems completely busted to me. I drag in a JPEG and nothing happens. I choose Select files and pick a JPEG and nothing happens. It's just busted completely (Firefox 3.6.8 here too).
