Auto-Rotate

I'm currently in trial mode, 6 more days left, and photos I've shot in portrait mode are rotating to landscape mode :fish

I've searched, have seen a few folks with the same issue but no fix other than going back in and doing the rotating manually. Is there a function for "Do not autorotate" that I am missing? If not, can one be added?

Our software, much like many out there, auto-rotates based on proper tags in the file's exif. How do you process your photos? There are some tools out there that don't 'do the right thing' and cause us to rotate improperly for you.

Processing is normally Raw-->Capture NX - Corel Photopaint, but I will also take JPEG and just open in Photopaint and lightly sharpen/rotate . Flickr, Photobucket, both have an option to not rotate, was hoping SmugMug did as well. Just ran a test with Photoshop and it rotates as well.

I think you've got the idea backwards here... Your camera by default stores everything in landscape mode, and then adds a flag to the image saying to rotate it into portrait mode. If you were to upload a jpg directly to SmugMug, it sees that flag and does the rotate. Corel is notorious for breaking that flag, and without it, SmugMug doesn't know to rotate the landscape image into portrait mode.

Rob, Please explain the failure of the Photoshop one to stay in proper orientation?

So after a couple emails with SmugMug support, it's pretty much a given that there will be no option to turn off auto rotate like the other major photo hosting sites are capable of doing. I'm really disappointed as I wanted to move my images here, but auto rotate is a deal breaker for me. Photoshop does not fit into my workflow and neither does Lightroom. I don't want to add extra steps to my process. Off to close the trial now. :(:(

We're very sorry. If only the software you use properly tags the photo, the pics wouldn't get rotated again on SmugMug :(
