Bald Eagle in Maine
Hi, first post here . . . I usually hang around over at Holy Macro.
We were vacationing in Maine last week and were treated to a few visits from this bald eagle. I was pretty excited because it is the first time I had seen one in the wild, and it stayed around long enough for me to grab some photos. There are a few more here on my SmugMug site. Thanks for looking.

I wish I was half the man that my dog thinks I am...
I have wanted to try my hand at eagles, well birds in general too.
Can you share what your set up and settings were for capturing these lovely images?
I would also love any other helpful tips on eagle shooting you'd care to share here.
Thanks!
Deborah
My equipment was a Nikon D300s, 300mm f4 AF-S with a Kenko 1.4x converter. Exposure was ISO 400, f5.6, 1/2000 sec. Because I was hoping to shoot the eagle in flight, I had the D300s set for continuous focus and burst mode, which allowed me to shoot at about 7 fps when I needed to.
As far as tips . . . well, I'm hardly an expert as I am not a wildlife shooter. Most of the birds I shoot are the backyard variety. As with any type of photography, just know your equipment, have it handy, and be ready to shoot! Having the right equipment sure helped photograph this bird in flight. The 300mm AF-S focuses very quickly and precisely, and shooting at 7fps greatly improved the likelihood of getting a good shot.
