Hi

I am renewing my domain name.

I can't remember what "making it private" entails. It looks like DBP will be listed as registrant of the website and my name will be gone?

Has anyone done this, and is there a downside? What rights will they have in my website (if any)?

Do they keep my credit card information on file? That would bother me.

In any way shape or form, will people will find it harder to find my website? IE will this affect google hits, and so on?

This will have no effect on people finding your website. All it does is hide you personal details that is attached to the domain. If there are any issues with your domain, you registrar will act as a middle man to contact you. I always make my domain names private because sometime spammers use this information.

When you register a domain, you have to put in a a technical and administrative contact. Normally that information is publicly available. Making it private means your registrar (GoDaddy) will put their info in there instead, keeping your information private.

It looks like your info isn't currently private... Go here to see what it shows: http://www.networksolutions.com/whois-search/compassrosegalleries.com
