Dragonfly in Garden

I was in the garden taking pics of hoverflies when I spotted this out of the corner of my eye - managed a few quick shots before it took off. I have never seen a dragonfly in the garden before and I've lived here ten years - I was that excited - normally it's a twenty mile round trip to take a picture of a dragonfly and this was less than six feet from my back door :barb

Thank you once more Phil for the i.d - at least I can tell the difference between a damsel and a dragon now (just) - still not confident with i.d'ing anything myself though - I thought it was maybe a common hawker. It really made my day seeing this as it would otherwise have been all about housework today and I would have gone back to work fed up. It's the simple things in life eh
