We've had a few birds making there way through our backyard lately.

Humming Bird
I've been trying to get a pic of this bird for 2 weeks. I finally got one today.

Young Bluejay
Same thing, I have seen and heard this bird for a while, finally got him.

My wife was sitting out back and called for me to come with the camera.
This was kind of strange because we live in the heart of St. Paul Mn.
Hawks in the backyard don't happen everyday. Not a great pic, but oh well.

Can anyone tell what kind of hawk this is?

Nice ones Dave. Love the background on the hummer shot.

Beautiful Dave. So clear and sharp. You must have a loooong lens. I like the hummer the best. I love the bright colors.

The hawk looks similar to the ones we have around here, but I can't see enough of him to be sure. Nice capture.

    Harry, Snappy, thanks.
I forgot to mention that I was using a Canon 300D with a Sigma 80-400os lens.
The long shot was the humming bird at around 20 feet. The other two were
aroound 15 feet. I have never been able to get that close to a hawk before.
    Thanks for looking.

    Greaper, Ben, Thanks.

We looked it up in the bird book and came up with a young Coopers hawk.
    Thanks for looking.

    Blue Jay
Thanks for that lovely shot - I lived in NYC for 2 years and travelled a little bit, weekends, wanted to see a bluejay and a Cardinal. In 2 years saw one cardinal and no BJ's. I kept hearing "You should have been here yesterday, we had three in the garden yesterday".

Thanks Jeff. We looked it up in the book and it looks like it's a juvenile coopers hawk. The size is right for that also, about 16 inches tall.
