No 'recent photos' on homepage

Hi all...

Brand new power user here, and i am a bit confused.

I tried to put the recent photos gadget on my homepage, but it almost never shows photos... Yesterday, it showed one photo (??) but most of the time it remains empty.

I have my site protected with a password, hello world set to no, and Hello smuggers to only on my smumug site.

Any ideas what to do?
