We visited Crater Lake last week. This is a five-shot pano stitched in CS3. I didn't have the luxury of choosing what time of day I would shoot this (11:20 am), but I was just glad to get a decent view of the whole thing! It is a stunning place!

(If this is too large, let me know and I'll shrink it.)

Shot with the Canon 40 D, 17-55 2.8 IS at f/11, 1/250, ISO 200

Judging by the result, I'd say that 11:20 is not a bad time of day to be shooting from that position.

I'm sure that, like most photographers, you would have preferred some of that magnificent golden sunrise or sunset light, but the blue skies and deep blue water of mid-day are awful pretty, too.

You know I have seen Crater Lake before, but I don't think I've ever seen a shot like this that put the road and the cars in perspective. Wow the place is huge! thumb.gif

Thank you all so much! I'm not so much of a landscape shooter, so I wasn't too confident about this, or about processing it to get the most out of it. I do wish I could have had some slightly different light/less haze, but it really is so blue, so I didn't want to mess with that. Our car is parked down in that lot! It only took about 1/2 hour to hike up to over 8,000 feet (huff and puff) to get this vantage point...well worth it. I think I read that the lake is about 5 miles across! Thanks, again, for all the comments!

you did really well - the subject is great, the lighting works, the pano is the right size, there is no banding in the sky, no or minimal blown highlights, good contrast.

did you improve the tonal contrast at all? there doesn't look to be much haze obscuring detail in the 2/3 range of the image.

perhaps the right side of the horizon is slightly lower than the left - but this could be just the bending effect from the super wide angle.clap.gif

Thank you very much! I don't make prints very often, but maybe this one will go in my office.
@ bhogle...Thank you for your comments. After the pano was stitched and cropped, I brought it back into LR3 and did some minor global adjusting of the blacks, clarity, vibrance, tone curve, sharpening, a small boost of exposure and a small graduated exposure filter to bring down the sky/clouds a bit. Just my usual raw processing with nothing fancy or specific to certain areas.
