I just installed CS5 Extended and CS5 is missing the gray background. I open it and I can see my desktop. The menus are there as are the tools but no gray background.
I had the same issue with CS4 but I cant remember how to fix it.

please help

If I'm understanding you correctly, you can cycle through the different 'views' using the 'f' key.

    Thanks foques,

    Ivan,
yes f cycles through the views but doesn't create a tab for each image with the typical gray background. I know it's a setting because I fixed it in Cs4 i just can't remember how.

    ok.
try to go to Photoshop -> preferences -> General (apple+k in Mac).
    go to interface option.

    set everything to gray.

Preferences->Interface. Check Open documents as tabs to get the tabbed view. The rest can be controlled above in the same panel.

I tried that setting, even rebooted, nothing.

I remember it being something really stupid when i fixed it last time.

looks like everybody was thinking about a windows system. On windows we have an application frame by default and no choice wheter to see the desktop or not.

    right?
