Lightroom 3 catalogs

I finally bought Lightroom, couldn't resist.
I am having difficulties figuring out how to properly import photographs into my lightroom catalog. :scratch
For instance, I have a Yosemite catalog that contains all my photographs from the park.
Now I shot new photos and wish to add them.
So I open the yosemite catalog, go to import and select all those new photographs. Lightroom faithfully imports those, but now my old ones are gone from the catalog. When I try to add them back, they are greyed out (supposedly already in the catalog).
What am I missing?

In the Library module (click on "Library" in the top right to get to it if it is not already there) look on the left side under "Catalog" (click on it if you need to expand it) and make sure "All Photographs" is selected. If "Previous Import" is selected it will only show the photos from your last import. Please let us know if that solves the problem.

I'll bet anything you're in "Previous Import." Right click on any photo and select "Go to Folder in Library." You'll be taken right where you want to be. thumb.gif
