    Gold Mine? Doesn't look all that old a device.

    Crushing, or perhaps tumbling to separate out heavier metal ore? It's called the COD mine. Founded in the 1800's, and closed and reopened a few times, most recently operations where in 1980. You're right, that equipment and building don't look that old.
