2 laptop show different picture size

My current laptop is 15" (about 3 yrs old) and just bought a new 16" laptop. The newer laptop now is longer but slightly shorter (in terms of ht) as compare to my old 15".

My picture size is set to "original". Most of the picture becomes slightly larger (about 10mm longer) when viewed in the 16". I'd have thought this should not be the case since viewed as "original".

And especially for square or portriat style, the picture when viewed in the 16" becomes very much smaller than the 15" .

What's the reason?

Can you provide a gallery link where you think this is happening? Smugmug galleries don't generally display originals. When you upload your images, Smugmug generates a number of different web sizes and they pick an appropriate web size to display that fits in the current browser window size. Make your window smaller (regardless of display size) and Smugmug will display a smaller version of the gallery image (in the Smugmug or Journal styles).

    Thanks jfriend.

My "original" is not a big file and all my original are actually only 620 pixel at the long side.

Your 15" is showing the medium size images, which are 600 pixels on the horizontal side. If you hide some toolbars or press F11, you should see the 620px original. It's perfectly normal.

    Hi Erick,

I know pressing f11 will get rid of the top tool bar, but the picture size does not go larger. My 15" screen show pic length of 154mm and 16" screen show 161mm even pressing f11 and both are set to original.

    Thanks for any further explanation

Next time, please include the link to the actual gallery. Having to type in a long URL from your screen shot is not very fun so we can actually examine the gallery.

If you want originals to show, you have to enable originals in gallery settings. It's that simple. Smugmug only generates web sizes that are smaller than your original (in this case Small and Medium). No matter what you set the largest display size to, it will not show your original unless you enable originals. So, even though you may have the gallery to allow XL and your original is smaller than XL, it will not show the original unless you set the gallery to allow originals.

    Thanks jfriend,

Maybe i should make it clearer. I've enable image size to original. Being the case, isn't it the display image size should be the same regardless what LCD size, but not in my case. Sorry that I did not provide the link as my new 16" laptop still not install with any MS Office. So a screen shot was probably most convinent for me at the moment.

Here's the link from my 15" laptop.

It does not look to me like you've enabled originals. You go to gallery settings here to enable originals:

    2010-08-18_0925.png

The option to view the original version of the image will show in these places when it's enabled:

    2010-08-18_0920.png

    2010-08-18_0923.png

Also, all I was asking for was for you to paste in a link to the gallery like you just did. I'm not sure what Microsoft Office had to do with any of that. You just copy/paste from the URL bar in the browser.

Indeed, X3 was the largest size allowed. Set for Originals and all will be fine.

I had done all along since day one enabling the original. But don't know why the display option only comes out "s, medium, auto" No original option despite i enable original.

    Here's the 2 links

    15" LCD
    http://david-low.smugmug.com/Favouri...565_vzut5-A-LB

    16" LCD
    http://david-low.smugmug.com/Favourites/My-Choice/6062505_mLoMK#926429565_vzut5-A-LB

When I paste the "16" link" into my 15" screen, the image size looks the same. But when view separately on individual computer, it is actually different in size.

    Many thanks

David. As I posted earlier, this gallery is -not- set to Originals.

    Thanks Andy,

I did checked before I posted this thread to ensure original. Its strange that it jumps to XL. Now I set back to original and the image in my 15" LCD still measured 154mm (long side) , whereas the 16" LCD measured 161mm.

Well, the 15" screen is smaller :D . If your screens have the same resolution, the image on the smaller screen will look smaller.

    Thanks Erick,

If that is the case, then I can understand.

But sorry for nagging a stupid question which still in my mind. Since "original" has been enable, isn't it the image size should be all similar regardless whatever the size of the LCD.

Also as I have previously described, strangely enough the screen only display "s, medium, auto". There is no option for me to click original. So can I assumed the display size should be considered original?

Digital images are measured in pixels, and pixels size varies from one screen to another.

It is strange. The option for original is there in the mouse-over pop-op in the gallery but not in the lightbox. I've uploaded your image in one of my unlisted gallery (already deleted) and it behaved exactly the same as in your gallery.

Thanks so much Erick and others. I guess that pretty sum up the discrepancies.
