How does one go about copyrighting pictures?

I'm really ignorant when it comes to this. Is it just a matter of putting a

wherever I want...pictures, or my homepage? Or is there an official way of doing this???

I really dont' know.

Could someone please help with an explaination or a link to a good reference?

Thanks a bunch!

here's how to make a stamper in photoshop

as far as other notices, you can put them in your footer section.

i'm moving this to "mind your own business forum."

as for the "rest of the story" re: copyright - take a search of the dgrin forums here, lots of great threads on the subject.. and then ask your specific questions.

    hope this helps!

The pictures are copyrighted the instant the shutter closes. Now if you wishto ENFORCE your copyright, that's the stuff that makes lawyers rich. It is ALL federal too.

Are you really going to go to court if someone puts your pic up on their blog? What if they photoshop your pic to make a derivitive work? About the only reason I'd go to court is if someone made a bunch of money off of my work (yeah right!).

Okay, so why not just explicitly state what people can and cannot do with your images? Give them permission right up front and set the boundaries clearly with a creative commons liscense.

    Mike,

That's the info I needed. So I guess I just put a disclaimer on my home page, like the one you have...and that's that. No need to stamp a big (c) on all my pictures.

    Perfect.

    Thanks

What you do is pay a lawyer $50 to write a cease and desist letter. You can get big buck in court but who has the time.

    my take
    Hi Mike,

I decided to put my copyright (that has my url on it) on all my pics of decent size that I have posted on my websites. The reason, I found that there are other people copying my pics and putting them on their website with no credit given. Since it's such a pain to do anything about it I just decided I might as well get some advertising from them.

    Just my take.

    Good luck, Al

Unless you can prove profit the person has made from illegal use or profit you have lost, it's doubtful you'll make anything. Most lawyers wouldn't even bother because their take wouldn't be worth their time. The cease and desist is all the would do normally.
