Hoverfly...more macro practice

I'm still working on my macro photography, and was inspired by a bloke on Flickr...so off I went again...18-55mm lens, reversed using an adaptor onto my Canon 400d. ISO set high, aperture set quite high to get greater DoF...

How do you think it came out? I think it's a tad noisy, but I'm quite pleased with the focus and the fact that it's not my usual dark dull blurry image (something to do with good, natural light)!

Yup - good shot especially with natural light.

nice work man, really wondering what you can get out of this set up :D

I would recommend if buying anything, to buy a dedicated flash. It will make worlds of difference on your shots and you can keep your ISO low. If your interested, here's what i did with reverse macro back in the days: link (everything except the first two photos)

Have fun and practice a lot. Starting out with reverse macro is a good way to get the skills for when you want to buy into a dedicated lens thumb.gif

I think its a great shot of the face.
This stuff is hard, but some guys make it seem so simple. But remember, they have been working on Micro for a long time. Put in the work, and it shows.
Chistopher, great shots on your website. I love the double exposures???

think with natural light shooting lower mag shots are better.
at this magnification you need flash to get sharp images.

Do you guys use speedlites with a whole buch of diffusion? And it seems that I saw one of the rigs with a cable from the light to the camera, is this correct?

    I don't because I do't have one...I just use on-board flash, but it's not always good enough.

I bought one of those 39.95 lites from China and it seems to work fine.

Most (including myself) use something like a flash bracketed on the side connected by a flash cord and some type of diffuser (search coke can diffuser by LordV) its more versatile than a ring flash thumb.gif
