Road Trip
We're on our first vacation as a family. It's a 4000-mile road trip from staring from Seattle to Denver, then south through Zion and Grand Canyon. Next it's LA, San Fran, the Redwoods and the Oregon coast toward home. Our kids, should they survive the backseat bickering, are ten, seven and six.
I'm posting to officially break the seal on a long hiatus here. It's good to put myself out there again. I just got a Canon 7D and I'm getting the feel for it. This trip is the official "breaking in" of my new gear (and life). I welcome your comments, critique and whatever you have to share about your family road trips ...
Thanks in advance for looking.
See you in southern Utah,
Jesse

Day four got off to a rough start.
Also: how can you spot a kid from the Pacific Northwest? Easy! She wears socks with her sandals. No matter how dorktastic I tell them they look, they insist on socks.
OMG!!! Hope the day didn't turn out quite as bad. Loved looking at this series, good stuff

We did 6,500 miles in three weeks in July, it was um... Exhausting. South Louisiana to Atlanta to a wedding in NE Louisiana to Dallas to Seattle, back to Dallas via Grand Canyon and Route 66 then back home. It was so tiring. Last Summer was southeast Louisiana to Dallas, Seattle, Detroit and back home - 19 states in 12 days. Don't do that one with kids!
Great shots! And I second loving that processing!

Not to us PNW'ers. We think it's nice and warmmmmm. Thanks for your comments
Haha!!!
The first shot is pure "family photo album" type goodness. Nothing super impressive technically...and probably would never be valued much outside the family, but I find it very compelling. The cutie pie on the left seems to be engrossed in some sort of discovery, while the one on the right has seen enough! I love it!
..and it reinforces the question I always ask when thinking of my own family..."How can kids who are raised in the same house....same parents....same schooling.....same opportunities....same religeon.....same blood....... How can those same people have grown to be so different?"
Personalities prevail.
The french frie shot is just plain fun. Kids being kids....inventive....entertaining. Kudos to you for having a camera at the ready at the dinner table!
I ve done my share of photography for other people...clients...for the sake of their families, but what you have shared here is my favorite type of photography. A journalistic approach to family photography. Documenting the goings on of our own family members. Preserving an event, a moment, a memory for all time. The kids in these photos will share them with their own kids someday and yearn to be young again...and on the road....sacrificing french fries with skewers.
Thanks for sharing!

and what a woman! lol--roadtrip like that with 3 kids, you need to be wearing a cape.
My favorite, hands down, is the girls on the curb. Perfect capture of a roadtrip with 3 kids.
I also really like #1 and the FF shot.
Can't wait to see what else you have in store for us on your trip.

I love the style of your photos!
We got home at 1 a.m. last night after fifteen hours of driving (good times!). More photos coming...
I love road trips as well...must do more myself!
