Well, it has taken me a while to post any bifs...one, because I never captured anything sharp enough and secondly, my reach is short. For some strange reason today I captured a few: I used 70-200VR some with the TC1.7 onboard

Thanks Harry...now I NEED a longer lens!

    Hey Trish,

Those osprey shots are outstanding. clap.gifclap.gifclap.gifclap.gif

I've been telling you for awhile now that you need more reach.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

You big silly. Don't you know that you can't beat lens lust.:uhoh You can make believe you're satisifed but deep down you know you're not. You want more reach, you want a wider lens, you want a faster lens.

    I make believe I love the 500mm but I really want a 600mm.

    Hey Trish,

These are nice thumb.gifthumb.gif Especially the Osprey shots clap.gifclap.gif Super sharp!!

BIFs are tough to nail. BIFs with more than one bird in the frame are really tough. You usually need to use narrower apertures (F11+) which, while giving you a deeper DOF, kill your shutter speeds ne_nau.gif It's always about trade-offs. Or, is it always about the food?....Laughing.gif

J/K you're making very good progress. I guess going out shooting with the Master is helping your shots. It's probably also fanning the flames of your longer glass lust iloveyou.gif ...lol

I'm sure you are wanting a nice 400mm prime. Believe me when I tell you that once you get your 400mm, you'll be lusting for a longer lens.....lol When it comes to telephoto reach, most folks are never satisfied. The friend I was shooting with the other day told me he had went to the Baylands a few days earlier and saw a guy using a 600mm lens with a 1.4X TC on a Wmberly pod and head. Granted the guy was using a 1D, but he still had an FOV of almost 1100mm's (which would be 1344mm's on a 20D iloveyou.gif .....oh baybay mwink.gif ) and the guy was still complaining that he didn't have enough reach.....lol rolleyes1.gif

Anyhow, nice to see you out shooting BIFs and I like what you came home with clap.gif

Thanks. I have a long way to go and really have not attempted all that many BIFS because they are just too far a reach..

You might be surprised what a cheap can of sardines will do for your "reach". :D

Try feeding the birds some fish on a regular basis. They "usually" will become use to you feeding them....and often times put on a nice show. If you are lucky they will come and pose for your. thumb.gif Just remember not to leave the fish in the camera bag inside the car in this summer heat. eek7.gif

    Good luck.

    Hi Steve,

yeaaaa...i know. I couldn't justify a purchase of that $$ amount, unless I was making about 1000 a week from selling shots:D Shooting with harry and also watching his progess is always fun! I give him 6 mos to a yr and he'll have the 600mm!

you been hanging around my grandson...he says I am "siddy" too!

I have lens lust. I admit it. I have been trying to let it go but it won't leave...But harry maybe we could arrange a grant and paycheck for each of us if we write a help program for lens lust...think about it...the 600mm could be obtainable for us and think about all the people we could help....1drink.gif
