Metz has introduced Mecablitz 50 AF-1 and 58 AF-2:

Metz Mecablitz 50 AF-1

Metz Mecablitz 58 AF-2

Improvements: flash tube, base/lock, wide angle coverage...

New: servo sensor (optical slave?)

Any excitement? :D

I've always been interested in these units. The small flash on the body supposedly provides some direct fill when the head is in the bounce position. Seems like a great idea, but I've never read any good personal, real world experience with this technique.

I've done a controlled test on that. The wink light seems to be too harsh, but it does give you advantages over an index card.

I almost bought a 58AF Metz a couple of years ago because it was quite a
bit cheaper than the Canon 580EX II and had the same output power. But
after reading about the fiddlesome menusystem where you have to click
yourself through 3 submenus in order to change a simple thing like flash
compensation I went with the Canon. If Metz had changed that their units
would be a real alternative - at least in my eyes.
