We brought home our lovable wanna be tough American bulldog Otis after having a tumor removed and he has been so sad looking. While petting/loving on him I took this picture and thought it might work for the challenge?
C&C...yes reshoot possible as he loves the attention, the air conditioning and is confined to the master bathroom for the next 10 days.

Great idea! I love the expression. I think the BG needs some work.

Poor guy...Having just gone (possibly still going though) a recent illness with my dog, I can relate to this shot.
I think it fits the theme well. Do you have a darker blanket, or pillow to use. Just a thought.
You captured the way he feels very well! I'd say he needs a treat, but he doesn't look like he could even lift his head for it!

Oh, poor him.... I can tell he's suffering - great capture of the mood.

I think it fits the theme perfectly!

    * I agree with a darker bckgrd too

If you can re shoot and get this same expression which says "defeat" or "down for the count" to me then reshoot--if not I'd try a b&w conversion to maybe take away the background and blanket distractions.

    Perfect for the theme.

Thanks for all the comments! Will try re-shoot with dark blanket since I need to wash that one.
He is truly defeated as he is all about being outside with the other two dogs running around, no amount of treats or air conditioning is going to make the 10 days bearable for him!

I like that! The black towel/blanket adds contrast, and I like that you can see his legs kind of splayed through the shield - it adds to the attitude of dejection.

    I hope he recovers quickly.

Thanks for all the comments!! I like the darker blanket - thanks for the comments to change the background.
On a side note his staples are holding tight on the 10 inch suture line and his energy is building up each day! No more temperature and only 1 week left of indoor healing time!
