Some credit card merchants reserve the charge amount when an order is received, which doesn't actually charge your account, but subtracts the amount from your credit limit. That way when they do ship there is less of a chance of the charge failing due to the account being over it's credit limit.
Also some resort hotels/high end bed and breakfeasts will charge half or sometime the entire charge for your stay when you make the reservation. That's more like 'togs work.
My guess is that there are quite a few different merchant aggrements depending on the kind of business you are in and bank you deal with.
Interesting to know. My point is basically that most places don't charge you until they actually ship you a product. That's the requirement as per the merchant services agreement. Photographers on the other hand, charge before the item(s) are delivered, such as wedding/portrait photography services, albums, retainer of services, etc.... That's all I was trying to point out.
