OK, so my daughter and my Mrs went to watch Everton take on Huddersfield Town in the Carling Cup on Wednesday night - the first time ever that my lass Rachel (she's 12 years old) has ever been to Goodison Park to watch the team.
We kept it secret from her right up to the last minute, when after having parked the car, we showed her the tickets, and suddenly produced her Everton replica shirt out from the wife's handbag. Rachel's face dropped in amazement as realised she was going to Everton's ground to watch them!
Anyway, to cut a long story short, she saw her dream boy Tim Cahill (but I didn't manage to get a photo of him) but she saw all the big name players and was really made up with that.
She had a great evening (and so did we) especially as we saw the Toffees win 5-1 at a canter.
We had a pretty good viewing spot in the family enclosure about 10 yards from the tunnel, and just 4 rows back from the front.
Only problems photography wise were a lack of any elbow room, and the constant jostling meant it was really hard to get anything decent. Allied to that the fact that the lenses I have are not geared up for low-light photography, with the aperture being mostly stuck at f/5.6 at the top end of the 55-250 IS zoom lens, and f/4.5 when zoomed back a bit, which meant I had to up the ISO to compensate. Oh for a 2.8 lens...
Still, got 5 reasonable shots during the course of the match which Rachel is very pleased with - and whilst they are not technically proficient or in the league of someone such as Bumble gets to take at Carlisle, they'll do nicely us nicely.
Most important of all was it was a terrific night out with the family, and a great game to watch, and perfect result.
Here are the 5 photos (permission to take them granted by EFC):
Jermaine Beckford & Jack Rodwell get the game under way - Kick off!
Everton Manager David Moyes watches as the blues are clobbered by some "lower league" tackling (Huddersfield didn't quite time them all to well...):
Steven Pienaar comes across to the sidelines and has to change his boots:
Everton's physio helps Magaye Guaye back to his feet after he had been upended, watched by Sylvan Distin (who was imperious in defence) and Leighton Baines. You can see John Heitinga (who missed a penalty) in the background:
Muscle Man! Louis Saha leaves the pitch to standing ovation at the games end (as the Everton team rode out 5-1 victors on the evening) having given his shirt to a Huddersfield player. To my daughter's delighted Saha strutted his stuff and showed off impressive abs as he came off the pitch!
Thanks for looking.
Paul.
