I've been trying to get a decent picture of a kooka for a couple of years now, and finally got one today that I'm not unhappy with. There's always room for improvement, though, so your comments will be much appreciated.

He or she is indeed sitting in a gum tree.

Funny...but this is a different kind of bird...at least to me. Well after looking at this one I went to another forum only to see yet another Kookaburra! Anyway, he didn't have a gum tree so yours wins.:D

Kookaburras are the largest of the kingfishers. By a lot. I've never seen one fishing, though I've heard of ornamental fishponds being deprived of their koi by the local kookas. They also eat a lot of snakes and lizards and barbequed sausages. :)

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

And Malte, I'll bet there must be great photo ops at your mother-in-laws place!
