Paul Allen's Flying Heritage Collection in Everett, WA, put on another of their "free fly days" today, featuring restored warbirds with "round" (radial) engines... a P-47 from Paul's collection, and an F-8F Bearcat and F-7F Tigercat from the Historic Flight Foundation across the airfield. Again, the weather was less than optimal - it seems i'm doomed to shooting airshow pics against cloudy skies! - but with some tweaking, i managed to salvage some fairly nice shots...

the feisty, stubby little F-8F Bearcat makes a pass...

the big Tigercat was actually quite fast, and very heavily armed for its day...

thanks, guys... it's really pretty cool to be able to see these old birds fly, and to get such a great vantage point as well... and for free, too! :)

Terrific shots, Rocky! To me, the cloudy skies seem to lend more authenticity, sort of setting a WWII action scene. Bright blue skies are nice for aerial shots sometimes, but I think these work nicely. My favorite is #3, likely because I have 3 "bad kitties" in my house--one in my lap now while I try to edit photos! :D

thanks, Frank and Lauren... appreciate the comments! Lauren, mostly agree about the clouds... a clear blue sky is pretty boring... but it seems every time i go to one of these events, the cloud cover is so thick and dark that it screws up my exposures and i have to do a lot of compensating to make the images come out decent. it was a bit better at this show than the last two i attended - the clouds started to thin out and break up just a little toward the end of the display, and i was able to catch some shots against a little bit better background...
