Lightroom 3.2 publish docs/release notes?

Happy to see the final release of LR3.2 appears to have native publish support for smugmug. Good job guys!

But... can we expect some wiki docs or release notes to let us know what can be done, what doesn't work yet, etc? I saw in a recent post in an old thread syncing for certain things only working in one direction at the moment. Would be cool to have a wiki page, release note, blog post, something about this very cool new feature.

Thanks!

Ken

Hooray! Just downloading it now! As much as I loved Jefferey's plugin, it would never work properly despite a rebuilt system and fresh installs.... just hope this one does work!!!!

I upgraded from 3.0 to Lightroom 3.2 but no SmugMug.

I only have Hard Drive, Flickr and Facebook under the Publish tab.

It sounds like you downloaded the release candidate and not the final version, try downloading from here...

Click on the "+" sign in the Publish Services tab. Then click on "set up..." for SmugMug, it should be neat the bottom of the mene that pops up.

I upgraded to LR 3.2 and "poof" my Export to Smugmug plugin was gone. 'Course now I have the "Publish" thingy. Is it better? I've used it, but I really don't know why one would be better than the other. Guess I'm not too savvy.

    John,

The two SmugMug plugins are totally different and can coexist happily, if Jeffrey Friedl's doesn't appear it's most likely been disabled for some reason. From within LR, select File->Plug-In Manager... and you should be able to enable Jeffrey's plugin.

    Hi again David

How do we use the Synchronize Hierarchy and Sync now button?
I assume Lightroom will not bring in everything that is already uploaded to SmugMug and that all those galleries under Publish Services will remain at zero?

What are the other sync options?

    Show Advanced Gallery Dialog
    Sync Gallery Settings before Edit

I do like the way I can now drag and drop photos into galleries and then publish with a single click.

Am busy doing my first publish with the new Integrated plugin - good news is that it actually works - compared to continual errors using Jefferey's plugin. So far so good, although I do hope devbobo is right and an upgrade to 'reverse populate' publish collections is inbound soon - like that feature of Jefferey's.

Only issue encountered so far is that the publish service does not filter keywords that are set not to export and uploads them all anyway - so all my workflow keywords appear in smugmug.

When you initially create the publish service instance, if 'Sync Hierarchy' was selected, when you click Save, we automatically sync the hierarchy.
After that, it needs to be manually activated using the 'Sync Now' button...whether you need to do that really depends on how you use LR...whether you have multiple users accessing your SmugMug account or perhaps using multiple catalogs.

At this point, the photo counts will remain at zero unless you manually add photos to those galleries within LR. I'm actively working on a new release that syncs photos that have been uploaded to SmugMug...when that goes live, there will be an additional option 'Sync Photos' that will determine if this new functionality is executed or not when 'Sync Now' is clicked.

    Show Advanced Gallery Dialog

With this option deselected the 'Create/Edit Gallery' dialog looks like this...

This is useful if you create most of your galleries using Quick Settings. To set a specific option, you need to select 'Advanced Settings...' from the Quick Settings menu which opens a modal dialog over the current window.

With this option selected, the 'Create/Edit Gallery' dialog looks like this...

If this option is selected, when you open the Edit dialog for a gallery that has been published on SmugMug...the plugin makes a call in the background to retrieve the current gallery settings, the new settings are applied as the new defaults when the dialog opens. This could be useful if you change options directly on SmugMug or if you using multiple catalogs where you might be uploading to the same galleries.

    David,

I use a whole set of keywords to manage my workflow using smart collections and they are all set to not export (by right clicking on the key word, selecting edit keyword tag and then deselecting 'include on export'.)

I assume the publish functionality bypasses this bit, although it appears to still use the export engine given the first thign that happens is a dialogue box that says 'preparing to export' comes up!

It's not a big deal for me, but I guess it could be for others. Once my system is up and running all my workflow keywords should be removed by the time I get to upload to smugmug anyway.

    Hope that helps :)

While in the library module right click on a keyword in the keyword list panel and then click on "Edit keyword tag..." in the pop up.

In the pop up you'll see check boxes for export options for this keyword and relations to it.

This is a very vital feature for anyone that makes any sort of serious use of keywording. Most would use both "private" keywords for internal library management and "public" keywords for improved searching on smugmug. A classic example might be for a photographer to have client based keywords they wouldn't want public. I don't know whether the problem would be on your end or LRs.

For me not a huge deal at the moment, the vast majority of my keywords are set to export anyway and I don't have any clients :)

Also, you don't have to drag and drop files into galleries... here's another method..

    1. Right-click on the gallery that you want to upload photos to.
    2. Select 'Set as Target Collection' ..

    20100901-mfcd6kx5fr5h8jchk1x7pfmfbe.png

    3. This will add a plus sign next to the selected gallery...

    20100901-fkbq9hqaw55ewg1u1xqkjsje7f.png

    4. Now select the photo(s) you want to add to this gallery.
    5. Right-click and select 'Add to Target Collection' or just press B...

    I am just curious...

What are folks setting the JPEG Quality at for uploads from Raw files?

    80% 90% 100%???

What settings do Smugmug folks recommend?

    Thanks,
    Chris

I use LR90 and they print great. I suspect you could do 85 and not notice any difference, either. But 90 works great for me.

If you look at Jeffery's Blog there is a really good article on JPEG quality and the actual impact it has... indedd his own plugin does not allow publ;ish/export above 90!

The Lightroom QE team confirmed that if 'Write Keywords as Lightroom Hierarchy' is selected, that keywords get exported regardless of whether they had been set not to export.
