While working on my 5th summit of the year at MT Ellinor in Washington State, I came across these two Olympic Marmots playing and eating in a meadow around 5000 feet. Olympic Marmots are somewhat rare (the most rare of the marmot family) and can only be found on the Olympic Peninsula. The slope I had to navigate to get close to them was most difficult, about 35 degrees of loose rock and grass. I trashed my hiking pants scooting along the slop. Sorry, no goats this trip.

I think they are beautiful, especially 2, 5 and 6.
Errr.. the marmots in those shots, that is. When it comes to the pictures themselves, the first one is my pick in this set.
