What could I do to improve this photo?

The desert makes great lighting, but only if you know how to use it. =/

    Both a reflector and a shallower DOF. Good luck, can't wait to see the next shot!

    Her butt is right in the middle of the photo. Perhaps move her or crop so that the isn't leaning "out" of the frame.

    Leaving aside the lighting issue, either reveal her feet or crop the bottom higher up - nearer the finger tips. I find the severed feet very off-putting.

    Yes as mentioned, I would change the composition so that she is at the right of the frame with the desert to the left of her instead and definitely a reflector or fill flash as the exposure on her is poor.
    I also agree with the crop on her feet...have fun!
