Collecting 130 photos was frustrating!

I selected about 250 photos from a week long event and put them into a Lightroom collection. I uploaded those to a SM gallery.
Then I pruned the set down to about 130 photos and put them into a second Lightroom collection. I tried to use the "collect" feature at SM to populate a second SM gallery without uploading all those bits again, but found it too awkward.
1. I have to find each photo in SM, wait until SM is ready, and click on the Collect link. If I don't notice the brief flag saying Collecting, it's not plain whether it worked. So, afterward, I can't tell.
2. It is awkward making sure I have the exact same photo in each window (Lightroom, SM). Thumbnail view doesn't show file names.
Eventually, I realized I was making too many errors, and I just started over, uploading the photos. I feel that's wasteful of bits, but economizes on my time.
Collected photos seem to be useful only in small quantities. Or, am I missing how to use them efficiently?
